Cupping

cupping.png

Cupping is a Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy in which glass or plastic cups are applied to the skin along the meridians (lines of energy) on the body, creating suction as a way of stimulating the flow of energy. Cupping is used to help promote circulation, detoxify the body, release pain and tension from muscles, in addition to treating many other ailments. Cupping can be done in a variety of ways and on all different parts of the body, though most typically it is done on the back and limbs. Cupping can be an important part of your acupuncture treatment. Most of our patients find cupping to be a wonderfully relaxing, comfortable, and rejuvenating experience.

What is Cupping used for?

Cupping is most commonly used for easing muscle tension and pain and treating painful and persistent injuries. Cupping usually leaves the muscles of the back or injured area feeling more relaxed and open, with freer movement and mobility.

In addition, cupping can be used to relieve stress & tension, lower blood pressure, promote healthy sleep, and relieve headaches and migraines. Cupping can also be used to treat chronic or acute coughs, asthma, symptoms of the common cold, hives, and others skin conditions. At times, cupping is used along side an acupuncture treatment as a great way to speed up healing by getting circulation moving through the body, increasing metabolism, and gently releasing toxins stored in the muscles.
